My little one caught a virus, should we deduct the days from the payroll of the caregiver?
Typical situation, your little one is not feeling well, in fact, he is downright sick and on antibiotics. You will definitely ask yourself two questions: Do I have the right to bring him all the same to the caregiver's (if his condition permits of course) and in the other case will these absences be deducted from her pay?
Can a home caregiver accept a sick child?
It is your responsibility to first of all assess whether it is reasonable that your child be kept outside your home while he is sick. It all depends on the conditions at your nanny's: are there other children in her care? Are they unruly? What is the nature and the seriousness of your child's illness: a simple teething or a raging fever? Whether or not she will accept sick children should be noted in the contract you both signed.
Absences when the child is sick.
Whether you are required to pay your caregiver while your child is sick depends on the agreement you have made with him or her. If your child is sick for an extended period of time your caregiver may be able to give you a reduction be sure to discuss this ahead of time - just in case.
Be careful of specific clauses relating to your contract
In most cases home caregiver's will expect you to pay even if your child is absent. She is unable to "replace" him or her with another child during the time as it was expected that she would care for him or her.
Each childcare provider's agreement is different so be sure to confirm what her policies are regarding sick children beforehand!
