Exceptional occurrences that can occur with a nanny. events nanny

Unexpected events that can affect the childcare.

Any childcare deals with its share of unexpected events, which often have a direct administrative impact. Some will be linked to your family life, your child, whose needs may change as he or she gets bigger.
Others will be due to your nanny should she happen to get sick, to become pregnant or (hopefully not) be the victim of a work injury. These exceptional situations are detailed here to help you cope should you find yourself faced with one of these cases.

Occurrences that change your childcare needs

You work less and therefore want to reduce the hours of care? You will need to make a modification to the employment contract, and have it signed by your nanny and yourself. If your nanny doesn't agree to the change, you might let her go her refusal to agree to the modification of the employment contract, or finish out the initial contract.

You have a new baby?
If you want it to be cared for by your nanny, you will again need to make  an amendment to the employment contract, two copies signed by both parties.
You have no obligation to increase the salary although it is customary to add about 10% to the nanny's salary.

If your nanny needs to take time off work for medical reasons at least for a limited period of time, you can hire a replacement nanny on fixed-term contract.

My nanny's exceptional absences

In these circumstances, you will not have to pay your nanny while she is off work, instead she may be eligible for government financial assistance.

My nanny is sick

Your nanny is sick with the flu and can't come look after your children? This is a pain for you... but it can happen to anyone! In addition to finding a replacement or making other arrangements for your child, here's how to manage the nanny's sick leave.

My nanny is pregnant

A pregnant nanny, that means maternity leave and possible sick days. You cannot fire your nanny for becoming pregnant or during her maternity leave. Find out all the particularities of this situation here.

Work-related accident

Your nanny is the victim of a work injury? She fell down the stairs or your cat scratched her, follow all of the  administrative procedures related to this unforeseen event.
