Insurance for an home childcare provider

Home childcare professional's insurance

Insurance is not officially required for home childcare professionals but many choose to have it, especially those who care for more than one or two children or who have been in the business for a number of years.

This type of insurance is not particularly expensive and can be easily purchased as an add-on to their home insurance.

Why the need for insurance?

The courts consider that the childminder must have constant vigilance, that she is responsible for any accident. But caring for infants ages is never without risk, all parents will confirm!

If a child gets hurt, he hurts someone or causes an accident, the liability of the childminder is almost always engaged. This professional insurance will cover the damage caused or suffered by the children they watch. This insurance will cover them in the extreme case where parents seek damages from them.

In general it is reassuring for both the parents and the childcare professional that he or she be properly insured.

Don't be afraid to ask your home childcare provider if she has insurance. If she does not, suggest that she purchase a policy: the cost in minimal but the benefits can be great.

Auto insurance

If your child is driven by the childcare provider, she must have warned her insurer that she transport children in her custody. This statement should be specified in the special conditions of the insurance contract.
