Expenses for the operational costs of your licensed nanny.
These expenses can either be calculated in addition to the salary of your childcare provider but most often they are included in the rate she quotes you or you are expected to provide certain supplies yourself (snacks, meals, diapers, wipes, etc).
So what's included then?
Most often it's an "all or nothing" type of situation. Either she will provide meals, snacks, and activity supplies or you are responsible for providing the meals and snacks yourself. For small infants parents are normally in charge of providing diapers and wipes or you will need to pay your childcare provider a fee for these (the costs add up quickly!).
A share of the home expenses (should be included in her salary):
- Use of heating or air conditioning,
- Water & electricity,
- Maintenance products (cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and so on)
- Adjustments made for safety,
- Insurance
The costs of childcare equipment (may be provided):
- Strollers (single, double, triple…)
- Beds, baby rockers, highchairs...
- Toys for all ages,
- Activity supplies (felts, crayons, play-doh, paint...)
Meal expenses
The cost of meals is usually integrated into the monthly rate or you may be expected to provide meals and snacks. If you would like her to provide meals for your little one but she has not included it in her price, she may charge you an extra fee. Make sure to discuss this during the interview. .
The age of your child will determine what kind of food the childcare provider will make. Obviously a one year-old and an six year-old do not have the same diet!
Obviously, a meal prepared with organic products will cost more.
Rates of meals and snacks should be stipulated in the contract. With the growth of your child, the costs are likely to increase each year.
The mileage allowance
It may be that you need your childcare provider to use her vehicle to take your child to summer camp, swimming class or horsebacking riding lessons
In this case, you need to compensate by the number of kilometers and according to the vehicle type.
Of course, if other parents ask the same route to pick up the kids from school, for example, the costs will be shared among families.
