What is a nanny share? definition nanny sharing

The same nanny for multiple families, is it possible?

That's it you are attracted by the idea of nanny sharing? You're quite right to be, it's won over more and more families in the past decade or so.
Even if it remains more popular in big cities such as Toronto and Vancouver, it's still catching on in many other cities.

How can we share a nanny?

Don't worry, we don't cut her in two! It's simple and well thought out:

Several families use the same nanny to watch all of their children, alternating homes. The expenses will be shared by the families, which will significantly reduce the monthly cost per family.

In absolute terms, nanny sharing has the same characteristics as regular nanny with one family. The requirements and tasks required of her are practically identical.
They are:

  • hygiene care (diaper changes for infants), feeding, putting the children down for their naps,
  • accompanying the children to and from school, helping them with homework,
  • outings, walks, games, entertainment
  • some household chores.

Alternating where the childcare takes place

The major difference is that the home where the childcare takes places changes periodically.
But nothing is mandatory in the matter!
Families may have decided by mutual agreement that the childcare would be done all the time at the Smith's, because they have a bigger house with a yard or have more complicated schedules.

Delighted parents!

Not for anything in the world would we change our childcare arrangement. It was my wife who had the idea first. Although it wasn't easy to agree on everything, we made the arrangements and it's going well. In the morning I take Lucas at Leah's home and the week after Leah comes to our house. They are like brothers and sisters, or at least cousins who take turns visiting each other... It's been six months since the contract began, and sometimes we even have a drink with Leah's parents we get along well!

Advantages of nanny sharing

Although the main goal is to benefit from significant cost savings, it's a form of childcare which pleases parents as it has many other benefits.

Disadvantages of nanny sharing

A great idea but not always so simple to achieve.  Although it may seem like an ideal solution, even magic, this type of care may not be suitable for everyone. For this system to work, both families agree on many general points. Here are some of the main disadvantages of this type of arrangement.
