Finding a childcare assistant whom you can trust find childcare provider

The ways to find your licensed nanny.

This time, it's decided! After weighing the pros and cons of all types of care, the person who will take care of your little one will be a home childcare assistant, the next step now is to find her.

Cakewalk or obstacle course?

Find a childcare assistant is often quite simple. Find by GOOD one on the other hand, may be more complicated. Countless parents have been disappointed with their first experience and had to change along the way.

A good outcome for your child's care starts with a good selection, and here we will discuss the different ways to analyze a maximum candidates.

Where to find your home childcare assistant?

On topnanny of course
Enter your address on the site and start the search. By default, it offers all the nannies available within a radius of 30km ... not really practical you might say to find a childcare provider near you! Don't worry, specify in the search column "childcare provider" then slide the cursor under the map to 1km. You now have a list of all childcare assistants in your area.

You can also select the search option "with recommendations only." This filters all childcare providers who reported to provide details of their previous employers. You know that the relationship between parents and childcare workers are sometimes strained and it's always better to check their references to avoid these kinds of stories.

What to do if no childcare providers are available?

We would advise you to ask around on your social networks to see if perhaps a friend or family member knows of somebody offering in home daycare.  Get the word out however you can!

What are my other options?

As a last option you can try an internet search for home daycares or consult a classified website such as Craigslist although we recommend be extra careful as anyone can place an ad. Always ask to see documentation for any claims (license, background check, etc.)

Always keep in mind Parents Canada's guidelines for recognizing a good home daycare which can be  read here
