A daycare spot, how much does it cost? cost daycare

The cost of a daycare space.

An attractive price? It's true that public daycare is the most affordable method of childcare for parents with modest incomes. Obtaining a public, subsidized daycare space is not easy! Otherwise you can pay for a private unsubsidized daycare, which is often considerably more expensive.
On the other hand if your income is high, and depending on how many children you have that need to be looked after, a nanny or home childcare provider might be better suited for your needs.
The amount you will have to pay depends on various factors (public or private space, type of day care, the age of the child, the area where you live...).

The factors that will vary the cost of day care

It's to tell you exactly how much day care will cost you. With subsidized spaces you could end up paying $0 or up $1700 for one child in daycare. The exception being Quebec where all daycare is subsidized and parents pay $7.30 per day maximum. Everything will depend on various factors:

The type of daycare, subsidized or unsubsidized:
If you are fortunate enough to receive a subsidized day care space you may have part or all of your day care expenses covered; this will depend on the amount of the subsidy and the cost of the daycare. If you do not benefit from a subsidy you will be responsible for paying the total daycare cost on your own (though you may still receive other childcare benefits).

The rates in your region:
The average daycare rates in the country vary enormously with Toronto and Vancouver being the most expensive cities. Because Quebec's daycare is completely subsidized, and capped at $7.30 per child per day, the maximum monthly rate is $152, by far the least expensive in the country.

The second most affordable city for daycare is Winnipeg where the average cost for childcare is $651 per month. Residents of Toronto, on the other hand, can expect to pay an average of $1676/month for an infant in full-time daycare. Now you see how much location really matters!

Your child's age:
The rates for daycare decrease as the child gets older. Infant care being the most expensive, then toddlers, then school-aged children.

The cost of daycare can be higher than expected. It even got mom Caroline Fernandez wondering if she was just working to pay for daycare. Read more on the Yummy Mummy Club blog.
