Présentation
Family seeking long-term live-in caregiver/nanny for two non-verbal teenage boys (aged 12 & 13) with autism (one with a seizure disorder). Position available immediately.
We live in a large townhouse in Victoria – three levels and facing a play park (no pets and non-smoking). Walking distance to Mayfair and Uptown. Parents are laid back and easy going. Kids are loving, extremely active, and have great little personalities – lots of giggles in this home.
Willingness to commit to a long-term contract (3 to 5 years) required.
Qualifications and experience
• active, loving, patient and kind
• minimum 19 years old and entitled to work in Canada (citizen or permanent resident)
• experience caring for children with developmental disabilities required
• ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) training required (training will be provided to the ideal candidate)
• experience with electronic communication device using TouchChat and WordPower boards an asset
Duties and responsibilities
• follow instructions from parents and behaviour consultant/speech language therapist that are part of the childrens’ therapy team
• assist in getting the kids up and the morning and ready for school
• assist in toileting, eating, washing, dressing
• assist in cooking nutritious meals for the children, including making school lunches the night before
• playing with and entertaining the children
• helping the children grow as individual young adults
• light housekeeping duties
• other tasks as required
• valid driver’s license an asset
Time-off available when the children are in school during weekdays. Weekly days off mid-week. Full workdays expected on weekends. When the kids are in school, you are free to come and go about your day.
Remuneration and benefits
• Salary of $42, 000 per year ($3, 500 a month) before taxes and benefits
• Room and board provided
o furnished room on the first floor with a full bathroom ensuite (door secured with lock and key for privacy)
o food provided (i.e. purchased as part of the family’s weekly grocery shop)
• $1, 000 bonus payable every 6-months after commencement of employment (limited by length of initial contract signed)
Two weeks annual vacation – timing negotiable with advanced notice. Overtime banked for additional paid time-off.
