Hello!
My name is Valerie , and I am writing to apply for a Nanny position this summer.
With over 10 years of professional teaching, mentoring and training experience, I am taking off the months of May through August to work in BC. My background in psychology and education has allowed me to be adept at a variety of subjects, including the humanities, history, anthropology, sociology, public speaking and group facilitation. Between 1998-1999, I was also a day camp counsellor at Redwood Day Camp and with the City of Beaconsfield Parks program.
At EquiLibre, my mandate was to train teachers and school administration on teaching practices relevant to fostering a healthy body image and lifestyle among high school students.
I also worked as a high school Guidance Counsellor for two years, where I had the opportunity to work with several types of students. In this time, I was mandated to do both individual and group counselling, as well as preventative workshops dealing various psychosocial issues, including drug awareness, sex education, body image, self-esteem and bullying. I also had the opportunity to teach Ethics and Health classes to grade 7 and 11 students.
From 2004-2009, I was a Volunteer Programs Coordinator at Kids Help Phone. In this time, my role has been to liaise with schools across the province to ensure that the organisation’s counselling services are known, as well as to recruit and train young volunteers, offer educational issue workshops, and facilitate various awareness events and fundraisers. In over fifty interactive conferences across the province, I taught participants about leadership, public speaking and fundraising skills as well as workshops on bullying, dating violence, leadership and loneliness and isolation. In 2005, I generated a 67% increase in volunteer participation; this was, on a national level, the highest percentage increase of youth volunteer recruitment and retention within the organization.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Human Relations from Concordia University in 2003 and went on to earn a Masters in Education at McGill University in 2012 where my skills in group facilitation, instructional design and counseling were developed.
I believe my personal strengths lie mostly with my strong interpersonal, public speaking and mentoring skills, which helps me relate well to others both in group or individual contexts.
One of my career goals has always been and continues to be the ability to empower people through inspiring educational practices.
I hope my candidature has retained your attention and that I get the opportunity to meet with you in the near future.
Best Regards,
Valerie
