I am a grandmother of ten lovely grandchildren and come from a family of eleven children. I am the oldest girl second oldest child so I stepped into the role of caregiver early. I love developing children by leading and guiding them on a daily basis. Walks develop their minds and bodies. They learn about colours shapes trees though discussions and playing games along the way. Walks are never just walks with me, they are learning tools and games. As a care giver I realize all parents are different in regards to their, methods of teaching responsibilities and what they expect of their children along threes lines. It is my job to respect these boundaries and stay within them each family have their own dynamics and because we have different beliefs and methods our methods have to be defined and mesh with the families. I believe In learning through nature, games and music. Games bring out standards in regards to rules, honesty and competitiveness. Music teaches rhythm following directions and a sense of belonging and sharing. It is important to play age appropriate games and educational games in a stress free environment. Let the children learn at their own pace and guide them along the way developing their strengths. It is so rewarding to see the results and hear their response when they reach a new goal or achieve a new success. I try to make reading time fun and ask questions to make the children think again age appropriate books are necessary to develop there different levels. For me developing happy well rounded children means I have been successful. I realize we all have bad days are not perfect and realize the importance of structure in a child's life. I am organized and work around the child's and families schedules. For some families I, have kept daily records, of, their child's care from how many diaper changes to what they ate all day. I get the children involved with this so they feel a part of what is happening, and to make them feel included. If we bake, they help with the measuring, stirring and mixing and then the clean up. For meals age appropriate duties are assigned. A two year old can always help with cleaning the fruits and vegetables, a four year old can set the table. These are just a few examples of my teaching methods.
