Dear Family,

Hello and how are you? My name is Colleen . Please accept this as my introductory letter.

I have successfully raised two, now fully-grown children – a boy and a girl. I consider it one of my most important life achievements. For all intents and purposes, I raised those children myself, while maintaining a household (plus 3 dogs). As such, I know on a personal level what it is like to feel such deep love for our children, to want what’s best for them, to experience that ‘tug’ when we need to be away from them, and to teach them how to become self-sufficient, loving human beings.

It is my love of children which leads me here. One of my children was born with health challenges, and this included the learning disability, Attention Deficit Disorder. All this really means is a child learns differently from most. I was there for my child through all of the school years, to help teach, empower, and often home-school as well. My child was a bullying victim because of this learning style difference. I, too, had been a bullying victim during my childhood. So perhaps more so than most, I know how important it is to enable and inspire each child to be his/her own person and personal best, while accepting the differences of others, and to raise a child’s self-esteem. Each child is wonderfully unique, capable, and deserves to be happy, emotionally healthy and know stability. I have a strong love for teaching plus helping others to reach their potential. Quite simply, I love spending time with children.

This is why I wish to help a family as their nanny. I have a lot of understanding for what is involved as a parent, and to know what it feels like to need, and receive, some support. I, unfortunately, did not have a lot of support, and maybe that is why even more, I wish to be able to be of help. I know what that level of stress feels like. And I believe you will find my personal characteristics are more than suited; I have an abundance of energy and a high level of patience and positivity.

With my sincere love of helping, playing, and teaching, I would be keen to create a comfortable atmosphere where children can feel safe, and hopefully have fun with the whole learning process – at all of the different developmental milestones. Always a creative thinker (you will see I have a very creative background), I believe I know how to keep children busy, engaged and have fun, with plenty of variety, getting 'down to their level. I am a genuine, loving, caring, persevering person, who wishes to help and do something meaningful. I have a lot of empathy to share and I take things ‘in stride’. There is nothing more rewarding than making a difference in the life of a child.

Life spent working in a cubicle is not for me. I adore getting outside and being out in nature, I am an avid animal lover, book lover, and music lover. I would be happy to share that enthusiasm with your children. I am not someone to sit endless hours in front of the TV and in fact, haven’t even had cable for approximately 8+ years now. There is so much more to do and enjoy. My creativity knows no boundaries and I am definitely an ‘outside the box’ thinker, so particularly enjoy a holistic, playing way to explore with children, utilizing the child’s particular interests. I am a friendly, outgoing individual.

I like to think I’m a very ‘hands on’ person, ready to pitch in where needed. I’ve actually been hired to do personal organizing for some, as it is an inherent trait and skill of mine. I am a very clean, organized person, and love a clean home. I’m happy to help in that regard.

Mostly, I wish to say I am really excited to being this next chapter. I am quite happy at this stage to simplify my life. I am also happy to be in a family setting again. I have gone through a lot, especially in these last 8 years, and am quite ready and willing to have stability in my life, while helping provide the same for someone else. Peace of mind is priceless.
