Hello! My name is Emma (age 30) and I'm offering babysitting, tutoring, and part-time child care for ages 2 and up, as well as light housekeeping & assistance for parents. My experience with kids extends to babysitting family members/cousins (age 4-8) and working at a horse riding camp (ages 5-12) teaching kids how to ride and groom horses as well as make lunches and organize games/crafts. In October 2022 I collaborated with Pictou County Kids First as an artist who helped paint a big wooden pumpkin for Halloween with some of the children. That was fun!

I don't have any kids of my own nor do I want any (feel free to ask me why), but I do care about the future of our society and this planet. I'm especially concerned about the effects of tech & social media on the development of kids/teens. In fact I've led people through social media detoxes to help with their addictions to their devices. As such, my babysitting style would be geared towards cultivating healthy and fun offline experiences like going outside, reading, playing make-believe, arts & crafts, singing, music, & learning. The only screen time I might encourage is playing Nancy Drew computer games (they're the best, I've collected them all!) or watching Bill Nye the Science Guy! (can you tell I'm a millennial?)

As for myself, I'm a published writer/author, I play piano and guitar, I sing and write songs, I love learning things and teaching, I have a BA in Anthropology, and I have the cutest friendliest rescue dog named Enzo. The kids at the bus stop LOVE playing with him. I have worked as a virtual assistant the past 6+ years doing web & design, tech support, admin, etc. but now I find it's time to get more offline and live in the real world rather than virtual.

If you have any questions let me know. Hope to hear from you soon!

Explication :

Many domestic-based jobs, often dubbed "women's work", are historically and socially underpaid even though they are often the backbone of what makes a thriving society. Caring for and raising children is just one of those jobs and is a form of enculturation; depending on the type of care a child gets, they will grow up to adopt the good (or harmful) characteristics & norms of the culture. I believe that anyone doing jobs related to childcare should be appropriately compensated as it is a highly culturally-valuable undertaking and bodes well for advances in feminism.
