Hi there, my name is Manisha and I am a fifth year student at Carleton University studying Honours in Psychology. I am very passionate about children and I have over 10 years of experience in child care. I have
taken many courses related to children that provide me with a better
understanding of how to understand children including: Foundations of
Developmental Psychology, Child Language, Exceptional Children, and
Adolescence & Emerging Adulthood. I believe that my many years of
childcare experience, combined with my substantial knowledge about
children, enjoyment of spending time with children, and dedication to my
work makes me an excellent candidate for this opportunity. Furthermore, I have also had the chance to work with
multicultural children by helping my mother in her home daycare through
Children’s Village and also by babysitting many children on my own for
over eight years. My job as a babysitter was to be responsible for the
safety of the children under my care and organize proper snacks and
activities for the children as per the family’s request. I also took the
children to the nearby Ruth E. Dickinson library to engage in activities
and read books. This job has taught me to become responsible, reliable,
organized, and punctual. With these traits, I have applied to become a
volunteer as a Big Sister for the Big Brother Big Sister Ottawa
Mentoring Program as well as a General Classroom Assistant for
elementary school children in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board,
through the Ottawa Network for Education. I have excellent
organizational and time management skills but most importantly, I am
very compassionate about both children and teaching. This compassion has
led me to work towards a career in becoming an elementary school
teacher.
