Sherry, professional childcarer in St. john's central A1E

My name is Sherry . I was born and raised in St.Johns. I'm the youngest of six children. I have five brothers. I began helping to look after children at a very early age. I use to help my Mom in our home daycare when I was a child. When I turned 12 I began babysitting for my two oldest brothers children. I've been looking after children on weekends and evenings at that time. When I turned 16 I was still helping out with the children in my our family home daycare changing diapers, helping with snacks and lunches, teaching children letters, numbers, colours shapes etc. Playing with children, supervising children in outdoorplay etc. When I graduated in 1993 from Highschool I began working full time with my Mom in our family home daycare. Then 1995 I began my Education in the field of Early Childhood Education through distance I attended classes at a training Center a few times a week. At that time I began studying with ICS School in the field of Child Psychology. I continued to study part time through distance and worked in our home daycare with my Mom and the children. I graduated from College of the North Atlantic in 2001 with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and I graduated in 1997 from ICS with a Diploma in Child Psychology. I continued working with children and Mom in home daycare helped in planning activites, changing diapers, feeding, naptimes, playing educational games, supervising, reading, singing, etc with the children we were taking care of at the time. Worked for a year outside of my home in clients house as a nanny. I was responsible for dressing, feeding, cleaning, Educating, teaching letters, number, colours shapes, etc to the two children I worked with at the time. I was also responsible for tidying the clients home cleaning vacuuming doing dishes laundry, looking after dogs etc. After that year I went back to try and start up family home daycare. Wasn't able to find families at the time. Began working in daycare centres in 2004. I worked as inclusion teacher at one Center I worked there for 10 months I injured my knee and had to take off because of it. I worked teachers helper, with other children helping with snacks lunch. Planning activities and carrying them out with the group of children. Cleaning and tidying the room etc. After my time off with my knee I began working at a different centre with 2 year olds. I was responsible for planning and carrying out activites, changing diapers, doing lunch snacks naptime, daily reports on children cleaning and organizing room doing circle time and reading singing and playing with children each individually and in groups.I worked here for over 2 and a half years. After that I worked at a third centre basically doing all of the same things with children 2 years old, then moved up to working with preschool children and older children and helping out with Infants when needed. I worked at this third centre for 7 and a half years. I am now Back looking to start up my family home daycare. I am looking to take care of children 0 to 3 years old. I am currently working with a little girl who is 14 months old. I've had her since the 5th of March and she turned a year on the 16th of March. I've done daily crafts with her, outings such going to see the ducks, preparing her snacks, and lunch daily in my house. Playing with her, teaching her words and sounds through play. Changing her diaper and doing daily nap time with her. The family is moving out of province in a week and a half, so I'm looking to find other children I can care for in my home after they leave.
