Creating a warm, nurturing environment is essential in any childcare center. When staff build lasting relationships with everyone who walks through the door, it gives children and families the ability to express their individuality. Accepting children and families along with their individuality builds positive self esteem in the children. This includes all families within the center, relatives, potential families, as well as staff. Time is spent during pick up and drop off to connect with each parent individually. Communication is key to any type of relationship. An open door for parents and staff assures that mutual happiness is acquired. Communication is available many different ways; e-mail and telephone conversations are a great way to catch up with busy parents who do not have a great deal of time at pickup or drop off. Regardless of an individual's schedule there will always be a way to communicate information back and forth between caregivers and parents.
Children learn a large amount of social, emotional, intellectual and physical development through play. Play fosters the growth in any area of development. When adults observe children’s play from an outside perspective it allows children to be creative. It is of great importance to observe and record children whilst they are playing. This is important, as children’s developmental records are used to plan further activities based on the developmental needs of each individual child within the center. Effective curriculum includes the natural interests and fascinations of young children. To ensure that the children are receiving the most of the planned activities the likes and current interests of all children in the center are incorporated into the plans. Children are growing individuals who are capable of problem solving with the proper the facilitation of an educator. While fostering productive problem solving, promoting and encouraging empathy creates a developmentally well-rounded experience.
A childcare center is a welcoming, comfortable, inclusive environment to all who enter; staff, children, parents, and visitors feel comfortable entering the child care center. To do so, the thoughts, feelings, and needs of all are considered and respected. The center itself is physically attractive and stimulating to the child. The center is well maintained, in good working repair, and well cleaned. Proper cleaning and sanitization schedules are strictly adhered to, as to prevent the spread of any illness or infection
