Hello! I'm currently a primary teacher at an alternative school and I am now searching for a position with a family that values education through play, nature, and mindfulness. This means that children learn through teachable moments, guided questions and prepositions, and hands-on adventures rather than predisposed lessons with right or wrong answers/actions.
Besides educating, I love to sing, be active outside (bike, hike, run, play frisbee, swim, etc.), garden, cook (mainly plant-based, from scratch and healthy tasty options!), and learn about yoga and mindfulness (currently taking a 100 hour YACEP course).
I would like to find a family who hold similar beliefs to mine. Here are a few:
I believe it is important for humans to understand the impact they have on the world, whether it is on mother nature (through consumerism, food choices) or other humans (ex. respecting differences). We can learn this at all ages, given the right guidance and language.
I believe it is important to train the mind to be positive, to find solutions instead of problems, and to work out emotions with communication.
I believe that at any age, a person can participate positively to a community. Whether that is helping food preparations, sharing stories, cleaning, being a helping hand, etc.
I also believe it is important that children learn how to be autonomous. Allowing them to do things on their own (with guidance) is how they learn best and develop a strong sense of self. Finding the happy middle between not helping at all and doing everything for a child is key.
I'm open to any job opportunities and would love to talk over the phone to get an idea of what you need in your home and if it can be a good fit!

Explanation:

I'm a teacher that believes that smaller adult-to-children ratios allows the child to be excited about what they learn, create meaningful decisions and live harmoniously in a community. Understanding child psychology, development and the individual on a personal level allows me to have teachable moments that are not found in the classroom or a daycare (where ratios are high). **Rates are to be discussed.
