I am a first year law student, working part time in childcare for one family, with children ages 1 and 5, that I have been employed with for one year this July. I worked as a full time nanny for a one year old during the summer of 2015, with the exception of a month spent in South Africa. During my time as a nanny I spent my days taking the baby swimming, to the spray park, and the playground, between making meals and ensuring a nap schedule was met. I am hoping to find employment with the right family as a full time nanny this summer!
My time in Africa was valuable to my childcare experience, as I was able to spend time in a children’s home, working with kids from 5 months to 14 years of age, helping run programming and activities, as well as helping during bathroom breaks and meal times. I also spent time in grades 4-6 classrooms during my time there, assisting teachers with large class sizes, in a school that was severely lacking in adequate amounts of teaching staff. I helped students with homework, and played sports with them during break times outside.
My experience working as a Red Cross swimming instructor gave me experience with teaching children of all ages. From parented classes with children as young as six months old, to 16 year olds in upper levels, I was able to make lesson plans and instruct classes of 6-12 participants according to Red Cross criteria, using a variety of methods, such as games with aims. I have found that these experiences in activity planning, practicing using creative games for everyday activities to engage children, and forming bonds with children and parents, has served me well as a childcare provider. I am not certified at the moment, but have been certified during my employment with the City of Saskatoon as a Water Safety Instructor, National Lifeguard Service, CPR C and AED, and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor. I do have hands on experience with minor and major first aid and rescue situations.
This Position would be a great fit for myself, as I feel that I possess the skills and experience necessary to develop a relationship with the entire family, and learn how I can fit in to your parenting routine. I have experience with children of all ages, and planning a variety of activities, excellent references, a willingness to work hard, and am vehicle owner. While I acknowledge that it may not be ideal that I am only available full time during the months of May to August due to my school schedule, I would be thrilled to meet with your family to discuss this position further.
