Hello,
My name is Colleen and I am interested in finding a full-time childcare position.
I have been babysitting since the age of 12. When I was in high school/university I was a consistent babysitter for one family and was expected to bring kids to and from sports activities as well as fulltime care when parents were out of town. Throughout university I continued doing babysitting during the school year for a local family and once I returned home for the summer would essentially become a fulltime nanny. I was expected to essentially run the household while the parents were working. The parents also trusted me with the care of their children for a week straight while they were out of the country.
Volunteer work: Program at UNB (2008-2009) designed to take as risk kids and get them involved in physical activity and be their mentor/buddy. I was paired with a young boy who was non-verbal with autism and I had the increased responsibility of to first get him engaged in one on one activities with the goal to progress him into the group program.
Queens University (2010) had a program that created a special Olympics day for children with disabilities. Each child was paired with a buddy who brought them around campus to the different activities and helped them with their specific needs to participate in the activity. I was paired with a young girl with CP who was non-ambulatory, so I was helping her transfer to and from her chair and any other mobility assistance she needed
Christie Lake Kids (2012-2015) I was a skating and hockey instructor for kids who came from families who couldn’t afford to put them in sports and also those who were at risk youth. By the end of my time with the program I was the lead instructor for the skating program, so I was involved in grading the kids, ensuring they were in the right levels, ensuring they were treating the instructors and other children with respect and selecting which children could progress onto the hockey program.
I like to engage with children in all forms of activities that they enjoy. I do specifically like to have children involved in physical activity in whatever avenue they find fun as I think it is extremely important to development and health to be physically active. I also like doing activities like crafts or puzzles that encourage children to problem solve and learn. I love getting children to use their imagination rather than a piece of technology entertain them.
Occasional babysitting | $10.00 per hour |
Home nanny | $15.00 per hour |
I have over 15 years experience taking care of children. In addition to that experience I have medical training in paediatric development along with a history of advanced levels of First Aid and CPR. I have experience in coaching children as well as working with children with physical and mental disabilities. I am willing with full-time care to essentially run your household for you and pay should reflect that. If requesting the use of my medical background I believe it would be fair to discuss rates again as well.
