I have always loved children and playing and working with them. Growing up I use to baby sit my younger brother and also my cousins (ages 1-10). I had to provide them with meals, help with homework, put them to bed at the appropriate times, play with them and do activities like going to the park or playing in the back hard.
During high school I would sometimes go to work with my mother at the elementary school and play with a child who has special needs, and during my free periods in school I would volunteer at my own school and work and play with students who have disabilities.
I took criminology in college that is a little outside of the child care area, but it has taught me how to respect and care for others and to provide proper services. I am currently doing a work placement at Nova Institute for Women in Truro, NS and I am due to complete on 20 February. During this placement I have been exposed to the mother-child program and have spent time visiting in the houses with the women and helping them with their baby and preparing meals and care.
