My name is Hannah, I am a mature, patient, supportive 25 year old with a lifetime of experience caring for children, and am looking for part time or full time work while I complete my Child and Youth Care BA at University of Victoria. The idea of being paid to do something as meaningful and important as taking care of a child is a rare opportunity in this world, and one that I would treasure.
To give you a little bit of an idea about me, I have a previous BA also from UVic majoring in Medieval Studies with a minor in Psychology, but my passion has always been caring for and protecting kids, so I wanted to return to school to learn even more and earn a degree that will help give me more access to professional childcare and child welfare opportunities. My goal is to one day work with children with Autism, so you can trust me to be a nurturing, strengths-focused, and encouraging presence no matter what the needs of the child I'm working with. I have both academic and working knowledge of taking care of babies and kids alike, and would be thrilled to help care for your child(ren) no matter what their age(s). I've been babysitting my entire life, both for friends and family members as well as for various families in my community, and have also devoted every Summer to volunteer positions at my local library and as a camp counselor. I also worked for UVic's student residence office where I was an active leader of the student community as a trusted shoulder to cry on, an advocate and mediator for any conflicts they came up against, planning events/activities, and also patrolling the campus every night to ensure everyone was safe. Now of course, university students aren't exactly the same age bracket as your child, but that job really helped me to hone my abilities to respond quickly in urgent or dangerous situations, to always stay calm and patient no matter what, and keep everyone safe and happy in the easy times as well as when things get hard.
From a very young age I was the primary caregiver for my two younger siblings. My brother was the youngest, and I was responsible for all of his needs, day and night, from the day he was born. I also have played a role in caring for my nephew (who is now just turning four) from his infancy, and acted as his nanny and as a mother's helper for my aunt. I've cared for children from infancy into their early teens, and am very dedicated to understanding the needs and interests of each child and each family I work with so I can give them the best care possible. Whatever your parenting style, I am dedicated to ensuring the care I provide is consistent and comfortable for both you and your child.
I would be available to start immediately, and am happy to work weekdays and weekends - morning, afternoon, or night, whenever you might need me. The only days I wouldn't be available are Tuesdays and Thursdays, as those are the days I have my classes, but my availability opens wide up in April once I am finished with school for the Summer.
I have a valid driver's license in good standing, but don't own a car of my own. However, I am a public transit champion and am very familiar with the city, so busing wouldn't be a challenge for me at all no matter where you live. I'm a dependable, never-late non-smoker, I'm certified and up to date in First Aid, CPR, and Food Safety, and I'm absolutely fine with any record checks you would need to feel comfortable. Pets of any kind are fine with me - I love animals! I'm also more than happy to help out with household tasks such as cleaning, organizing, shopping, food preparation, and anything else you might need. Letting someone into your home to care for your child is a huge decision, and I'm happy to do anything and everything to make that process easier for you.
I'm a huge believer in engaging one-on-one with children, fostering their unique personalities and interests, and helping them create wonderful memories each and every day. I absolutely love singing, playing games, arts and crafts, getting out in nature, and am an enormous book and storytelling lover. If there's anything else you'd like to know, please feel free to get in touch with me - I am an open book. Thank you so much, I'm really looking forward to hearing from you!
