Melanie, foreign au pair - T7Z Stony plain

Hello! My name is Melanie and I am a young, hardworking, dedicated professional who always puts others before herself and loves helping others live the best quality of life possible! I am super creative and love doing crafts, being active and motivating others with my past dance and yoga experience.

I have obtained a diploma in the Mental Health and Addictions Worker program at Canadore College, and have extensive experience working with individuals in a variety of settings. With my skills, I have demonstrated commitment to serving youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a therapeutic school setting, and using dance & yoga as a therapy tool.

During my field placement in a local school in North Bay, I worked closely in special education programs at the intermediate and secondary level with students of all abilities providing individual and groups a way to express themselves with dance as a therapy tool. I took pride in implementing programs as directed by respective therapists and teachers and was also given the opportunity to create and implement my own. I have experience with the Ontario curriculum from primary through to secondary education, transition planning, goal setting and have experience with community agencies in North Bay, ON and surrounding areas.

Throughout my time at L’Arche & Community Living, I have learned and created my own strategies to providing support that is respectful to all members in their own unique ways. I have experience in both the private(in home) and public (day program) sectors and working shift work of all hours, awake over nights, out of town trips, and am comfortable assisting with personal care, medication administration and meal planning.

I love challenges, working hard and the satisfactory that I’m contributing to giving someone the best quality of life. Nothing is more challenging than this field but the intrinsic rewards are worth it. I am flexible and understand that it takes creativity to get to the end result. I am just as effective when working in a team environment as when working on my own. I have developed great observational skills and can assess both verbal and nonverbal communication behaviors. I believe my training and experience as a supporter make me capable for this job.
