Dear family,

My name is Daphne and I was born in Northern British Columbia, Canada on a homestead in a tiny town called Longworth. I am the middle child, with one older sister and one younger brother. I grew up spending 6 months of the year in Northern BC with my mom and 6 months of the year in San Francisco California with my dad, what I consider to be the best of both worlds.

I currently live in Vancouver BC with my husband, 17 year old border collie and 16-year-old surly cat, however I am moving to Sooke on September 1st! I have an MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding from RRU, with an emphasis on youth empowerment. My favourite past times are reading, cooking, running, kayaking, and writing music.

I have traveled extensively, backpacking in my early twenties through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia as well as Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mexico and most recently, Nicaragua. My favourite thing about traveling is meeting new people, gaining new perspectives, and trying new food.

I began babysitting at an early age, tagging along with my older sister and received my babysitting certificate as soon as I was old enough, from St. John’s Ambulance. I had numerous babysitting jobs throughout high school, and this continued on through college and University. Some positions became more permanent and regular, which allowed me to create better rapport and more lasting relationships with my clients. I have always had a strong connection to working with youth and deeply enjoy the time that I get to spend with them. I pride myself in incorporating fun, innovative and engaging games and ideas and I believe that a good nanny is compassionate, respectful, and fun.

My interest in youth empowerment within the realm of peacekeeping fuels my desire to work as a nanny, as I am always surprised at how much I learn from the young people I engage with. I am confident that I will greatly contribute to your family with my wide array of experience and insight. I am not afraid to tie up my sneakers and get dirty outdoors or with a great science or art invention, and regardless of the mess; I can use my previous experience as a house-cleaner to tidy up afterwards. I am happy to prepare healthy meals and am looking for a family that values being active, playing more than watching TV, and values innovation and laughter as the best form of play.
