Hey there!
My name is Champagne, but sometimes people call me by my nickname "Champie or Champagnie".
I have two younger brothers who are 11 months apart; they have also been previously diagnosed with autism. Babysitting and watching my brothers gave me experience to watch children with their differences and little troubles. Given my brothers diagnosis, they had anger issues, listening issues and following orders was a "no no" in their mind. However, I was able to calm them down and compromise to their needs/wants without the trouble of calling our Mother.
As well, we had a few neighbors when living in Bowmanville who needed babysitters for their children. One family had two young boys, a couple of years apart, and they each had a learning disability and ADHD. I was able to cater to them, and help them improve their school grades by aiding in their homework and assignments. The eldest, actually exceeded and passed his EQAO! His Mom never thought that would happen; but I believed in him! I babysat, and of course when babysitting, the house is never clean. But I always made sure I tidied up afterwards, and made sure that what had to be done was done.
Lastly, another family I had worked for had a son under ten, and a daughter under 3 years of age. They didn't need school help, but for 12 hours some days, it felt as they were my own. I fed them breakfast, helped them get dressed, eventually they got into a routine of making there bed and cleaning up their toys after using them. I loved it when they wanted to wind down, or even to play with me. We would cuddle and watch TV. I would read them bed time stories, make games out of different things.
Overall, I love children. I plan to have some of my own in the future. As well, my future career goal is to become a Child and Youth Worker. I believe mental and physical health should both be addressed in order to make the child feel more comfortable. Taking care of and loving children is apart of my life and personality. Babysitting now, will only help me continue my journey to help the young ones life their life to the fullest, healthiest and the best way possible.
