Hi! My name is Stevie. I am looking for part-time work babysitting and caring for children. I have spent 3.5 years working with children, most recently at the library coordinating the Summer Reading Club. Previously, I was a juniors coach and coordinator at my Field Hockey club in Melbourne, Australia, where I lived for 12 years.
I am organized, flexible, and fantastic at problem-solving; open-minded and creative.
I am empathetic and patient with the children, I do not discriminate. I believe everyone learns at a different pace. I have experience educating kids on the ASD and ADHD spectrum, not only at the library, but my younger sister has autism.
I love art, I feel strongly about how art can help the brain process events and emotions. Whether we are coloring in a printout or painting or sculpting, making art with children has been my favorite activity and the most effective way to get to know them.
I find art and craft is a way I can connect with children, in the past I have encouraged kids when upset or overwhelmed, to draw something they are passionate about or grab some paints or and slap some color on paper, or twist some pipe cleaners into their favorite animal. They always feel a lot better.
Granted, not all children like art; my sister is certainly not a fan of art and crafts. Lego is another one I encourage, whenever we bring it to Camp Cowabunga the children get very excited and work nicely and quietly on a project.
I am very comfortable reading to kids, I do it every day. I know plenty of fantastic children's books and think it's important to read to or with them.
Lastly, getting outside and running around is cathartic and VERY important for running off energy. My experience at a sporting club has taught me that fresh air and an open field (or backyard) can be the 'cure' to anything troubling a kid.
In September I will be a student at Selkirk, starting my Bachelor of Arts. I plan on majoring in Fine Art, and then getting my teaching degree.
If you are looking for someone confident and full of unique ideas, I am the right person to look after your child!
I am working on getting my first aid certificate, but I have had one in Australia. I have my license and a car.
Occasional babysitting | $14.50 per hour |
I would like to say that I am in the process of getting my first aid certificate, but I did have a valid one when I lived in Melbourne, Australia just last year.
I have coached and worked with children in a sporting capacity for 3 years, and this year I coordinated the Summer Reading Club, where I educated a total of 60 children between 3 and 16. I love working with children, particularly art-based activities. I think being creative and hands-on with children is so much fun, and lets me understand them and how they learn better.
