I love working with children and youth, I get along well with others in team situations, I'm energetic and enthusiastic and I have many unique ideas to bring to forth if chosen for a position. I'm a graduate of the Child and Youth Worker 4 year program at Niagara College where I've learned and practiced behavioural case management, crisis management, family and child counselling, child and youth legislation, as well as how to support clients with a range of different diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Cri Du Chat Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I believe working with your agency would be a great experience to help further my skills.
I've volunteered in the Sea Cadet and Air Cadet Programs for 6 years where I’ve gained experience in different areas such as discipline and leadership along with passing those skills on to others. I've also spent time volunteering at the Resource Association for Teens (youth hostel in St. Catharines Ontario), Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as Pathstone Mental Health where I worked one on one with at risk youth, developed goals with them, taught them strategies to help them in difficult situations along with basic everyday life skills in order for them to succeed.
My employment history also includes working at a therapeutic ranch in Niagara on the Lake Ontario for children and adults with disabilities providing programming through summer day camps and weekend respite. My duties included full personal care for all clients and creating a fun and exciting experience for all involved. I've also been happy to have worked as a program staff at Autism Ontario during a fall program session; working one on one with my client participating in recreational activities such as laser tag and horseback riding as well as swimming. In addition to providing respite through employment, I also did home respite care for 2 different clients; a 21 year old male diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and a 9 year old boy with a Cri Du Chat syndrome. Most recently, I've relocated to Alberta and worked at an intensive treatment centre for male youth who are affected by FASD, ADHD and conduct disorder. These youth are primarily part of the Aboriginal population. I just commenced work at WJS as a Disability Support working supporting adults with disabilities in a home setting and working as a family support interventionist in the homes of families involved with Children and Family Services.
At this time I'm in search of a full time position. I have Standard First Aid, CPR "C" , Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certification, MANDT Certification and Child Development Supervisor (level 3) Certification. As well, I do have my own transportation and am willing to commute. I have enclosed my resume for your review. I'm excited to further discuss opportunities with your agency. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
