I have been studying psychology & nutrition at university for the past 2.5 years, but have decided to take some time off. I have been involved with children in several different settings and have thoroughly enjoyed each opportunity. For the past four years I have been a summer camp counsellor for children ranging in ages 4-11, this job has given me lots of experience in planning and carrying out different activities, games, and crafts. I've also been teaching swimming lessons to children, teenagers, and adults for several years and have lifeguard/swimming instructor certifications, including first aid/cpr. I have been volunteering in an elementary school assisting in the 4/5 year old class helping with classroom activities and occasionally working one-on-one with students who are struggling. During the time I was in university, I spent an hour a week mentoring a 13 year old. This was a wonderful experience, and it taught me a lot about the challenges faced by adolescence today. I have a special place in my heart for individuals with special needs; I am currently providing respite care for a family and coach a swim team for individuals with a wide range of special needs. I rarely watch tv and would definitely not use it as a form of entertainment for your children, I'd much rather be doing hands on activities and interacting with them.
